Backblaze Developer Newsletter—April 2026

Performance Stats is back, and with a new location added to the dataset. Our latest edition of the report includes cloud storage provider comparison data in EU-Central to see how Backblaze, Wasabi, AWS, and Cloudflare R2’s services in the region stack up; plus, we updated the quarterly dataset for US-East. Read the post to see how each provider performed and review all the charts.

OpenClaw has rapidly become a new agent automation playground for AI enthusiasts, with a reported 3.2 million users and more than 250,000 stars on GitHub since the project officially launched in January. Like other AI workflows, your autonomous agents need a data retention strategy to make sure outputs are being saved, and that agent “profiles” don’t disappear without a trace. We built a plugin for that so you can easily back up all your OpenClaw data to B2.

Last but certainly not least, we’re featuring an interesting (and very relatable) home lab setup using B2 for an offsite NAS backup. DevOps engineer Arseny Zinchenko posted an insightful write up on getting started with B2 after primarily working with Google Drive and evaluating rclone upload speed performance.

Performance Stats Q1 2026

Performance Stats is the latest stats franchise from Backblaze (joining Network Stats and Drive Stats) which focuses on cloud storage performance benchmarking. Led by SRE Gabby Faust and Technical Narrative Content Manager Stephanie Doyle, this report showcased our second quarter of test results for US-East and the addition of EU-Central as a region. Testing in EU data centers showed meaningful regional variation, with no single provider’s U.S. performance predicting results in Europe.
