Managing object lifecycles is one of the simplest ways to control storage costs, keep buckets organized, and automate data hygiene. Backblaze B2 has long supported lifecycle rules through the B2 Native API and the web console, and we recently expanded that support by adding a set of S3 compatible lifecycle rule API operations, S3 Put Lifecycle Configuration, S3 Get Lifecycle Configuration, and S3 Delete Lifecycle Configuration, allowing you to use existing tools and workflows to manage your data on Backblaze B2.

A Developer's Guide to Migrating Multimodal AI Training Data (and Putting It to Work) with Pixeltable

Following up on our November blog post focusing on multimodal AI data and Pixeltable, Backblaze Product Marketing Manager Maddie Presland looks at three open-source tools that handle different aspects of migrating your data into Backblaze B2: Apache NiFi, Airbyte, and lakeFS, and explains how you can combine them with Pixeltable to prepare your data for model training.

Back Up Multiple Drives to Backblaze with Deduplication

Many open source projects originate with a developer "scratching an itch," or, in other words encountering a requirement that their existing toolset doesn't quite meet, and building an application to fill the gap. PHP developer n0nag0n wanted to back up data to Backblaze B2 while ensuring that multiple copies of identical files were backed up only once. Existing tools would deduplicate files within a single backup job, but not across jobs covering multiple local drives.

So, n0nag0n set to work with the Backblaze B2 Python SDK, building b2-dedup, a backup tool that deduplicates files across multiple jobs. The project is very new, and seems to have some rough edges, but it might be worth a look if you have a similar requirement, or you just want to check out a tool built with the B2 Python SDK.
